Minnesota's Promise

Our Vision: A World-Class Future for Minnesota's Schools

Minnesota needs to chart a course for a world-class educational system. Beginning in February 2005, 27 superintendents across Minnesota came together in a series of discussions on the future of education in our state. We discovered that, despite our differences, we share the same challenge: We must aim higher.

At two Minnesota’s Promise summits in October 2006 and April 2007, and through other communications, we expanded participation in developing Minnesota’s Promise to over 1,000 residents. Now, ‘we’ are educators and parents, youth workers and policymakers, advocates and business people, young and old, of many cultures and races. We all agreed:  Minnesotans must devise a coherent, comprehensive new approach chart a course for a world- to education, one that responds to pressing educational challenges. Our work must change the educational system in the classroom, at the district level, at the policy level, across communities and through all facets of state leadership. We have identified 10 Strategies for Creating a World-Class Educational System as the core components of our vision:
